Two different questions
Call recording answers “what happened?” It stores the call, transcribes it, scores it, and shows a manager where a rep talked too much or skipped a step. That is training material, and for a sales team with a coach it is valuable. It is also entirely after the fact: the prospect who said “send me some information” and hung up is not coming back because the scorecard flagged it.
Live call coaching answers “what do I say now?” It reads the prospect's last words as they land, decides what the moment needs, and puts one line on screen while the prospect is still talking to you. The “send me some information” gets “happy to; what specifically would you want to see in it?” a few seconds after it is said, not a note in next week's review.
What recording tools are good at
- Finding patterns across many reps and many calls.
- Onboarding new reps on real examples.
- Measuring talk ratio, question count, and stage coverage over time.
Those are team problems. A founder who takes six calls a week and closes or does not close in those six calls has a different problem: the call in front of them.
What live coaching has to get right
- Hearing both sides. Browser tools hear only the microphone. CloseABiz's desktop app captures the meeting app's audio and your microphone as two channels, so who said what is never guessed.
- Speed. A line that arrives after you have already answered is noise. The rules answer in milliseconds with a banner; the written line follows within a few seconds, measured on every call.
- Judgment, not keywords. “Interesting” is politeness, not a buying signal. A budget number with a reason is a constraint, not a value objection. A partner who really decides is part of how the prospect buys, not an obstacle. The coaching has to know the difference.
- Honesty. It must never put a number, a result or a guarantee in your mouth that your offer cannot back. Every line is checked for that before you see it.
Use both, in the right order
CloseABiz keeps a post-call review (what went well, the moment worth revisiting, a follow-up message to send today) because the after-the-fact view still has a use. But it is a by-product of the live view, not the product. The product is the next line.
